SALES TAX HOLIDAY: Last week, Governor Patrick signed legislation establishing a Sales Tax Holiday for the weekend of August 16th & 17th. This law suspends the state sales tax of 5% on items less than $2,500 for personal use. There are some items that are still subject to the sales tax, including telecommunications services, tobacco products, gas, steam, electricity, motor vehicles, motorboats, meals and items priced over $2,500. Retailers’ needing additional information on should consult the Department of Revenue’s website for more information.
